Salesforce AI: Agentforce, Slackbot, Claudeforce
Salesforce now offers several AI products that share Claude and sound interchangeable. They do different jobs. Agentforce is where you build agents that follow a process you define. Slackbot is a personal assistant inside Slack, and Salesforce positions it as the way an employee reaches those agents without naming them. Claudeforce is the Salesforce and Anthropic partnership. Its first product, Salesforce in Claude, lets a seller work inside the Claude app with live Salesforce data and actions that still follow Salesforce permissions. Choose by where the person types, who else can see the conversation, and which system is allowed to update the record.
Why Agentforce, Slackbot, and Claudeforce blur together
Salesforce describes these as layers of one stack, and Anthropic's Claude shows up in more than one layer.
- Claude is a reasoning model inside Agentforce. Salesforce says it powers Agentforce Coworker by default and is available in Agent Builder.
- Claude is the default model behind Slackbot for Salesforce customers.
- Claude Tag is a Slack teammate that joins a channel and works in the thread with the team.
- Claudeforce is the partnership name. Salesforce in Claude is the plugin that brings Salesforce data and actions into the Claude app.
"We turned on Claude for Salesforce" can mean any of those four. Use the name on the setup screen. Before you enable a feature, ask where the person types, who else sees the thread, and what the agent is allowed to change.
Agentforce is the agent you design
Agentforce is Salesforce's platform for agents that look up data, make a plan, and take steps. You build them in Agent Builder. An agent can serve employees or customers, and Salesforce says it can run in Lightning, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, a website, SMS, or WhatsApp.
In Slack, a published agent is an app people can mention. Several people can talk to it in one public channel, see the sources, and correct the next step together. Salesforce offers agents for cases, sales follow-ups, lead nurturing, and IT or HR questions.
Use Agentforce when the work should happen the same way every time: route a lead, triage a case and propose a status, or write meeting notes into the opportunity fields your process requires. The same pattern fits a donor question that has to land on the right record. Someone still owns the topics, the actions, and the steps a person must approve, especially outbound email and money fields.
Slackbot is the personal front door in Slack
Slackbot is a personal AI agent that lives in Slack. The conversation is one-to-one. Salesforce says Claude powers it by default for Salesforce customers, and that it acts as the front door to Agentforce. The employee describes the task. Slackbot calls the specialized agent and brings the result back to that private chat.
Agentforce is the specialist, and a channel can work with it in the open. Slackbot is the private assistant that calls those specialists, so people do not memorize agent names. Use it to pull meeting context, find a file, or start a workflow they are already allowed to run. A shared queue belongs on an Agentforce agent in a channel. Slackbot alone, with no agents published, is a personal assistant. The governed process is still unbuilt.
Claudeforce is Claude as the place you work
Claudeforce is Salesforce's name for its partnership with Anthropic. It covers earlier pieces, including Claude inside Agentforce and Claude Tag in Slack, and it names a product: Salesforce in Claude.
Salesforce in Claude is a plugin. Salesforce says it ships with 37 prebuilt skills for sellers, so someone can ask about the live pipeline, prepare for a call, and take actions without leaving Claude. Actions follow that user's Salesforce permissions. An admin connects it once. You can require a check before it emails someone outside the company or updates a field. Salesforce says the connection uses zero data retention on Claude Sonnet, Opus, and Haiku.
At announcement, Salesforce in Claude was in pilot, with an open beta planned for September 2026 and Sales covered first. Ask your account team whether your org has access before you train anyone. Those skills will not run a support queue or a grant process.
Claude Tag is the name people mix up with Slackbot. It joins a Slack channel and works in the thread with the team. Slackbot stays private. Slack Code is a separate product for engineers. Salesforce calls the layer under these Claude connections Headless 360, so an assistant can reach the same data and permissions without clicking through Lightning. Three surfaces can still mean three writers on one opportunity.
How to choose
Match the tool to the job. More than one can be on if each Salesforce action has a single writer.
- The outcome is a Salesforce update under rules you wrote, including work a customer or a channel can see. Use Agentforce, one small agent, with a person on outbound email, money fields, and anything a donor or customer would notice.
- An employee in Slack needs that work done without learning your agent list. Use Slackbot, pointed only at Agentforce agents you have approved.
- A team needs to reason in a Slack thread. Use Claude Tag for the shared conversation. Mention an Agentforce agent when the thread must end in a Salesforce action you defined.
- Sellers want the Claude app, on pipeline tasks Salesforce and Anthropic already packaged. Use Salesforce in Claude if your org is in the pilot or beta. Compare the skills to your stages and required fields before you allow writes.
- The process crosses a system Salesforce does not run, or you want the application and database in accounts you own. Connect Claude to Salesforce through its APIs. AI integration connects Claude to the CRM and documents you already have. AI agents and automation fits when you need a review queue, a spend limit, and a log of what the model did. Records stay in a database you own, under provider terms that exclude training on your data.
Agentforce owns the actions. Slackbot is the private way to call them. Claude, as Claude Tag or Salesforce in Claude, is where people reason.
What to settle first
Give each Salesforce action one writer. If Claude, Slackbot, and a service agent can all update the same deal, you cannot tell which change is current. Leave the other paths read-only until the writer you chose is reliable. A second person can review work in a shared Agentforce channel, or through an approval. A Slackbot chat stays private to one employee.
Confirm licenses before you announce a launch. Salesforce says Agentforce in Slack needs an Agentforce license and a Slack license, and people without a Salesforce user may need a provisional license. Your account team has the price.
Test a profile that cannot see salary, donor amounts, or health fields. Salesforce says Salesforce in Claude inherits that user's permissions, including sharing rules that are wider than the team expects. Keep each data promise on the product that made it. For Agentforce in Slack, Salesforce says customer data is not used to train models and that models run inside its trust boundary. For Salesforce in Claude, the published claim is zero data retention on Sonnet, Opus, and Haiku.
Start with one process
Pick a job with a clear input and a clear Salesforce result: summarize a case and propose a status, draft a follow-up a person still sends, or route a lead. Turn on one surface. Count corrections. Add Slackbot, Claude Tag, or Salesforce in Claude after that path is reliable. Start with a pre-discovery call.
Frequently asked questions
Is Claudeforce the same product as Agentforce?
Agentforce is where you build and run agents. Claudeforce is the Salesforce and Anthropic partnership. Salesforce in Claude, its first product, is a sales plugin inside the Claude app. Claude can also be the model inside an Agentforce agent.
Is Slackbot the same thing as Claude Tag?
Slackbot is a one-to-one assistant and the front door to Agentforce. Claude Tag joins a channel and works in the thread with the team.
Do we have to replace Salesforce?
These options sit on the Salesforce org you already have. Adding an agent or a Claude connection does not require a new CRM.
Can we use Claude on Salesforce data without these products?
Yes. An application you own can read and write Salesforce through its APIs, with your prompts, review steps, and logs. Use that when the built-in skills miss the process. When an Agentforce action already does the job, configure that action.
What should we enable first?
Enable one option for one painful process. A shared queue points to Agentforce. One person's Slack chores point to Slackbot. A seller in the Claude app points to Salesforce in Claude, once your org has access and the skills match your fields.
If you want help matching a process to one of these options and testing it on real records, tell us what you are trying to automate.
